  1. Artists impression/heavily retouched Silver Crest 17 or 20 HP with non-standard arrangement of Solex carburettor. Possibly a wartime development/experimental engine? Bypass oil filtration not fitted. Unusual rocker cover. Possibly the reverse side of picture SCTM 026 2. Perhaps a development intended for postwar production? The inlet and exhaust manifold layout closely resembles the early postwar TA21 Three Litre system with the Solex carburettor.

  2. Colin Newby, a Silver Crest owner and expert has sent some further information on this one. It is thought to be a very early 17HP engine before certain modifications were made for production. All engines that have been seen have tappet chest covers in the manner of the TA14 under the manifolds and triple SU carburettors were fitted on all models. Maybe this was a pre-production motor?
